The answer to what an optometrist does is just about everything with the eye short of surgery. We diagnose, treat, and manage all diseases of the eye as well as refract (determine spectacle and contact lens prescriptions). We co-manage lasik and cataract surgeries. We treat dry eyes, allergies, diabetes, and glaucoma. We remove debris and objects from the eyes as well as cauterize lesions. We diagnose infections and prescribe medications for their treatment. We also have a unique characteristic of being able to treat binocular vision problems with vision therapy. In short, think of us as the first step to determining any problems you have with your eyes. Unless you have a stick poking into or out of your eyes. In that case, the hospital is probably your best bet

Welcome to the first Eye-blog. A blog dedicated to the idea of promoting good vision and ocular health. I am Dr. Sean M. Hensley, OD. The OD stands for optometrist, an eye doctor – not a medical doctor. I practice in Hutto, Texas at Hutto Vision Care. It is a wonderful, small community on the outskirts of Austin, Texas. This blog will serve two purposes. First, as a conduit to good information and my opinion, which I believe are one in the same. And secondly to promote Hutto Vision Care and other private optometrists. Others will not share my optomistic nature or my opinion and I hope will respond so that we may open a dialogue. Though I consider myself an expert and scholar in the field of eye care, a truly smart person realizes how little they truly know. My hope is to promote a better understanding of the type of eye care I feel should be strived for and the type of eye care most people are accustomed to. I believe you as a reader will find this blog informative and by all means, feel free to contact or post on the topics I put up. To quote Josh Billings, “Knowledge is like money: the more you get, the more you crave.”
